What makes us different?

Dr. Fabrizio Carta received his degree in 2002 in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology from the University of Sassari (Italy) with honours. In 2008 he was awarded the PhD in chemistry at the School of Chemistry of the Bristol University (UK), then he was appointed as postdoctoral fellow at MIT (USA). He finally joined Prof. Supuran’s groups at the University of Florence (Italy). Since January 2018 he holds the position of Ricercatore a Tempo Determinato Tipo A (CHIM 08–Chimica Farmaceutica) at the Department of NEUROFARBA, Sez. Farmaceutica e Nutraceutica of the University of Florence. Dr. Carta obtained the National Scientific Habilitation as Associate Professor for settore concorsuale 03/D1- Chimica e Tecnologie Farmaceutiche, Tossicologiche e Nutraceutico-Alimentari (21/01/2015 – 21/01/2021) and for 03/B1- Fondamenti delle Scienze Chimiche e Sistemi Inorganici (01/12/2014 - 01/12/2020). Since 2015 he is Editorial Board Member of Journal of Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry (JEIMC; IF 3.638) and Journal of the Turkish Chemical Society: Section A (JOTCSA); 2015-2017 Associate Editor of Current Enzyme Inhibition and Medicinal Chemistry and since 2018 Frontiers Section Editor of Pharmaceutical Chemistry within the same Journal. He is co/author of 145 papers on international peer-reviewed jounals, H-Index of 35 with 4820 citations (source Scopus); 6 book chapters and he is co-inventor in 4 WO patents. Among the scientific awards and prizes, in 2016 Dr. Carta received the Premio Divisione di Chimica Farmaceutica from Societa’ Chimica Italiana (SCI); Dr. Carta is ranked at 12° position within the international classification Top Authors in Medicinal Chemistry held from Taylor and Francis (2017).

Dr. Caterina Viglianisi received her master’s degree in chemistry in 2001 at the University of Messina (Italy) where she obtained her PhD in chemistry in 2006. She was visiting PhD student at the School of Biological and Chemicals Sciences, University of Exeter (UK), where she carried out a research on "Design of multifunctional antioxidants: biological redox chemistry of the chalcogens". From 2006 to 2016 she obtains different post-Doc position at the ISMAC-CNR of Milan and the University of Florence. Since March 2018 is Assistant Professor (RTD-b  SSD 03/C1 - organic chemistry) at the Department of Chemistry “Ugo Schiff” of the University of Florence. On 2017 she obtained the National Scientific Habilitation as Associate Professor for SSD 03/C1 - organic chemistry. Since 2015, she is coordinator of the MacromAd Group, a team of researchers selected under the IX cycle of pre-incubation at the IUF and engaged in a path to transform his innovative idea into a project of technological transfer. The MacromAd group was selected among the 10 finalists of the Tuscan Start Cup 2015.

Prof. Claudia Bello received her master’s degree in chemistry with honours in 2003 at the University of Basilicata (IT). After a one-year specialization course at the University of Pavia, which included an internship at a Swiss pharmaceutical company in Aarau (CH), she moved to Switzerland to join the group of Prof P. Vogel at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), where she obtained her PhD in chemistry and chemical engineering in 2009. She received then an Innogrant from the VPIV of the EPFL to continue her research during one year of postdoc. In 2010 she moved to Munich (DE), as she was awarded an A. von Humboldt foundation fellowship for postdoctoral researchers, joining the group of Prof C. F. W. Becker at TUM (her second host was Dr A.-C. Gavin at the EMBL-Heidelberg). She obtained a six years position as Senior Researcher at the University of Vienna (Austria). She is an awardee of the Montalcini Program for young researchers, call 2014. She obtained the National Scientific Habilitation as Associate Professor for SSD 03/C1 - organic chemistry (06.09.2018) and since March 2017 is Assistant Professor (RTD-b) at the Department of Chemistry “Ugo Schiff” of the University of Florence. Prizes and recognitions: 2017: Rita Levi Montalcini Program for Young Researchers (Call 2014) recipient. 2016: «Qualification aux fonctions de Maitres de Conférence des Universités Françaises» from the CNU (Conseil National des Universités). 2013: “Organic and Biomolecular Chemistry Poster prize” at the 5th Chemical Protein Synthesis Meeting and Best poster presentation at the 3rd Austrian Peptide Symposium. 2012: Travel grant to participate to the «32nd European Peptide Symposium», Athens, (GR) (selected for oral presentation at the Young Investigators minisymposium) 2008: shortlisted in the selection of the representative of EPFL PhD students for the participation to the 59th Nobel laureate meeting, Lindau 2009P
